Secret People Within Us All
In the novel Sahara Special by Esme Raji Codell, Miss Pointy tells Sahara,“Secret people are hard to keep inside. Especially if they are wonderful. You, for instance, are leaking.”
In my opinion, we all have secrets and things about us others don’t know. It may be that we have a hidden talent or don’t share our worries with others. It may be that we have hopes and dreams we don’t dare share with others, or we’re just hoping that someone special will come along and notice us “leaking”. No matter what, all of us have parts of us we share and parts of us we hide.

I believe this quote goes for everybody. Everyone has something they keep to themselves, fears, hopes, dreams, and sometimes we don’t want others to know. But we should, hiding things from others makes us secretive. It’s not bad, I mean everyone has secrets. But it’s not good keeping things from others, especially if it’s something spectacular like Sahara’s! No one should be embarressed by what they fear, hope, or dream about, because chances are there is someone else wandering around with the same hope, dream, or fear you have. Nothing is impossible, and you can easily conquer a fear, be a doctor, and help make the world a better place. You just need a place to start. The place is here, the time is now. Shoot for the moon, and aim for the stars. That little dream can become reality. So I’ll take my advice and I’m proud to say, I AM A WRITER!

She claims to not like to write but i can tell she does because she always writes stories, poems, and really long e-mails, texts, and IM’s. In my personal expirience i’ve seen her leaking. We told to write a story from a picture last year. Immeditly she started blurting out ideas. Then she stopped herself and asked me what i was going to write about. My friend’s leaking, is similer to sharah’s leaking. they are both trying to hide a talent…..writing.

November 15th, 2007 at 11:23 pmI think that Sahara’s quote reminds me of a girl on my soccer team named Layla. I play club soccer so you have to try out for our team if you want to be on it. Layla is one of our new playersand just recently made the team. She is an exellent soccer player and is very kind. When she first made our team everybody thought she was really shy, and I also did to.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:47 pmWe do this drill in soccer called the “Indian Run”. It invalves yelling, and I heard her yell like I’ve never heard her yell before!!! She was screaming on top of her lungs. After she yelled I said to her that she is soft on the outside, but loud on the inside. Layla and I started cracking up and talking the whole two hours of practice! I have never seen her like that, and I am glad that I did. I am also glad that she is now use to me. I think that we can all be secret inside to some people, but not so secret yo others.
The quote from Sahara Special where Miss Pointy tells Sahara that secret people are hard to keep inside and that Sahara is “leaking” reminds me of Darrell Sikes. I think of Darrell when I here this quote because he basically was a secret person… until he started “leaking” and told everybody the truth about how his life really is. I think what Miss Pointy meant by saying that secret people are “hard to keep inside” is that when people don’t see the real you from the first time you meet them, you have this urge to tell them your true story. This is exactly what happened to Darrell. He was held back a whole year and wasn’t favored by his classmates or his teacher, so maybe he thought that if people knew the truth about him, they would like him better because he would seem like a real human being and not just an insensitive bully. Obviously, this worked for Darrell because he definetley had a friend in Sahara by the end of the book. I think that everybody should expose their secret person because what is the point of being something you aren’t? This quote definetley reminds me of Darrell Sikes: the most revealing character in Sahara Special.

I am a shy and quiet person, just like Sahara. Sahara has many secrets lurking inside of her for instance: her father has left her, her mom asked her to be failed last year in fifth grade, she has an amazing talent of writing, and even though last year she was in special needs she really didn’t need it. I don’t have such as big secrets as Sahara does, but I still have secrets inside of me. When a freind hurts my feelings I never tell them, if I do horrible on a test and a freind asks me how I did I just smile letting them know I don’t want to tell, in down town town San Fransico I encounter many homeless people I feel bad when I walk right past them without bother to give them some loose change, and when I am alone I pretend I someone else. When Miss Pointy refers to Sahara as leaking she means Sahara has let some of her secrets escape from her and Miss Pointy is proud of Sahara. Throughout fifth grade Sahara has learned she isn’t the only person with secrets inside of her. Darrell Sikes, the toughest guy in her class as soft secrets inside of him to. This quote is truly heartwarming and unforgettable!
November 17th, 2007 at 6:50 pmThis quote reminds me of how I feel about playing football. When I tried out for the St. Johns team I was cut from the team and that made me really sad. Since then I have been afraid to try out again even though I really enjoy playing football. Sahara’s fear of how others would judge her writing reminds me of my fear being rejected.
November 18th, 2007 at 11:58 pmThis quote reminds me of many people, but it really reminds me of my best friend, Megan. I think that she has a secret person inside of her because she is an AMAZING writer. I only see her at my dance classes, but sometimes she brings a binder to our dance classes with her latest stories inside of it. She always lets me read them, and, in my mind, could be compared to some of the greatest writers of all time. She wants to be a veterinarian, but she has many other talents, also, so I’m going to support her in everything she does!

For exampe, Miss Pointy says to Sahara,”Special people are hard to keep inside, especially if they are wonderful. You, for instance, are leaking.” This quote reminds me of one person in my life. That is Allie. She is the person that I would say is leaking. I would say that because she is always thinking of other people. Also, she moved to a new school and she doesn’t know a lot of people, but she stays with it and doesn’t complain. I’d say that she is pretty special.
November 21st, 2007 at 10:44 pmThis quote reminds me of the character Roy, in the book Hoot. Roy is the new kid that moved to Florida from Montana. Roy has struggled being the new kid, but he is pretty much used to it. There is one boy named Dana Matherson that Roy is really scared of. Everyday Dana finds a new way to pick on Roy, and Roy can’t stand it anymore. Finally, Roy starts to act out. Roy becomes pretty popular and has his own little group of friends. Him and his friends figure out a way to get back at the bully, but Roy didnt want to. He wanted to be the bigger person and stand up the the bully and he did. Roy took charge and talked to Dana. This showed that Roy wasn’t just a little weakling that couldn’t do anything. Roy started at the school as a puny new kid, and ended up as a popular, respectful guy.

She sometimes misses her mom when she is at her dad’s house. I think she could be wonderful.I think that she tries to keep her feelings inside which makes her less outgoing. She is very kind, but is not always very optimist. I think that she can do much more than she does and has more talent than she wants to show. I think that anyone can change, but it would take more than a simple pat on the back.

Ever since I have known her, she has loved to dance, but never took lessons. She had potential, balance, stamina, all it took to be a true, hard working dancer! Then, one year, she finally took the plunge. After eleven years of ignoring her special talent, she finally took lessons. She, and many others, found that she was a true artist on the dance floor. She had all the right moves, rhythm, she could remember all the steps, and she grew to be a better dancer after only a few months of lessons. Her secret person is a dancer, and she is definitely leaking, and leaving little puddles in her dance shoes.
November 25th, 2007 at 10:32 pmThe quote in Sahara Special that Mrs.Pointy says reminds me of my mom. this quote reminds me of my mom because she is a wonderful life choach and she helps a handful of people with difficalt or slite problams, but no matter what she alwas gives awsome advice like what Miss.Pointy said in the novel Sahara Special. my mom gives great advice to her kids and her clients. she has wisdom like Miss.Pointy because i always find her saying special, kind things that always help in the situation that her family or her clients are in that alway help. when Miss.Pointy said the quote i had a hard time not thinking about my mom because of the great impact she has on me because of the fantastic person she is. it is always a hard time working,but my mom is that kid of person that doesn’t mind it because she loves what she does becuase she likes to be the kind and generous person she is. that is who the quote in the novel Sahara Special.

The reason is because almost a year ago he died and it has been very hard for me and my family to take in. Although it has been a year, every once in a while I need to tell somebody how sad I am to get it out of my system. He and I were also best friends. Even my grandma says so.

This quote reminds me of my mom because she is a wonderful life coach, she helps people with difficult or slight problems, and no matter what she always gives awesome advice like Miss Pointy. My mom gives great advice to her kids and her clients. She has wisdom like Miss Pointy. When I first met her she was so shy and never shared her feelings. Every day I see her she comes out of her shell inch by inch. She is the most wonder full person in the whole world and she is leaking!!! She is always there for me in the hardest times. Miss.Pointy should of said the quote to Kylie not sahara!!!
